What am I working on now?

2023 03 03 "All That Jazz" series
I am c
ontinuing with the second layer in black and white oil paint - 4 of the 6 so far (posted side by side now.)
They are still looking clumsy, so more work to do on the three brass players.
The first singer is looking pretty good now and I still have to do the second layer on the last 2 singers. Maybe on Sunday.
(I hate it when the underpainting looks better than the oil layers.)
2023 02 04 - "All That Jazz"
These are 5x7x2"  canvases , painted with black gesso. The image is copied to the canvas using white transfer paper, then shaded with white and black PanPastel. This allows for infinite corrections.  I don't spend a lot of time on that as it gets painted over, though I did get carried away blending out the last one. I seal the pastel with spray retouch varnish so the pastel powder does not mix into the paint and confuse me.  The next layer will be white, grey and black acrylic paint. If all else fails with a PanPastel/Acrylic picture, I can just paint it black again and start over. Sometimes I finish it with oil paint as the slower drying time lets me correct my mistakes.

The images are from my photos taken at "Jazz in the  Attic" -  live jazz events in the Curling Club lounge, organized by the Nicola Valley Arts Council 2018-2022.

2023 01 11-18 - "Red Peonies"
These are from a Zoom workshop with the fabulous Yvonne Reddick.
She is such a great instructor!
These are the sequence images of my painting-in-progress - not quite finished so I will have to figure out the rest on my own. Sometime.
